I heard that if you're an EU citizen you can study in sweden almost for free. Where can I find more info?
I'm 26 and I'd like to transfer there. Are there age limits for the scholarship? I heard also that they wanted to leave the free studies only for swedish nationals. Did they change already? Thanks
Hey!
I'm from Canada and actually looking into going to Sweden for the spring semester next january. Whether you're an EU or non-Eu citizen, there is NO tuition fee, only a student fee which covers ID and other school funds - maybe around 250 euros.
The best website I've found so far that talks about courses & programs, where to apply, costs and estimates for housing fees etc is this one. It also has a couple stories from students from other countries who've studied there:
http://www.studyinsweden.se/Study-options/Basic-information/Fees-and-costs/
(also, here's a link to scholarships and requirements):
https://www.studera.nu/studera/1754.html
I did hear that they were going to begin charging tuition fees, and I remember that it was to be around 500 - 700 euros (not sure if it's per year or semester) for foreign students. This should begin in 2010. Unfortunately, I dont remember which website it was
But overall, this is still cheap compared to universities in other countries.
I'm not sure which country you're from, but another really good option I was looking at was Finland. They have a system pretty much equal to sweden and tuition there is also free. (only thing, I haven't been able to find much about scholarships - I don't think they really give any; and they dont do intake for spring, you would have to apply for winter 2010.) They may not speak as much english in Finland as they do in Sweden, but some people do, and many also speak swedish. It's a beautiful country and another good option. I attached some links for you. The 2nd one is more of a forum with Q&A about finland and people wanting to learn more about the country and culture.

For either choice, it would be great to learn the language itself as this can improve your chances of getting a job while you're there. For either country, I would say about $1000 US per month should be adequate enough based on what I've added up for costs for housing, food, misc., health insurance, etc. But you would really have to watch your spending - if you wanted to have more for spending, say eating out or going out and sporting a lot, then maybe $1500.
Hope this helps
